The China-Egypt relationship has a long history, yet its economic story most took place after China launched its “One Belt One Road” initiative after 2010. This map illustrates major Chinese activities in Egypt’s mineral fields, energy reserves, and agricultural sector. The map reveals a unique trait in the Sino-Egyptian tie. China’s recent activities and Egyptian natural resources do not correlate geographically. The Chinese activities are mostly concentrated around the Suez strait (which is a kay joint of the “one belt one road” initiative) and in the capital city Cairo. This reflects the focus on trade and politics (rather than the extraction of resources) of China’s historical and current cooperation with Egypt.
