The transitions and merits that the high-speed railways(HSR) have brought are tremendous: the shorter travel times for each passenger together and the significantly increased capacity which could bring more passengers for the same route. Yet a strengthened competition between HSR and airlines has just begun, and a new idea was proposed Air-rail combined transportation, which is to take advantage of the ground speed, high regional coverages and location advantages of high-speed rail with the fast, direct access merits of civil aviation. Hub cities such like Shanghai, Nanjing, Yangzhou, etc. play the role of connecting the near by cities which don’t have airline transportation. This figure maps how HSR & Airline in lower Yangzi region benefit from each other and build up a solid partnership relationship instead of solely competitors.
