Major Railroads in the Second Sino-Japanese WarMajor Railroads in the Second Sino-Japanese War
In 1937, the Second Sino-Japanese War began in China. Railways played a pivotal role for the Chinese military to transport troops across China’s extensive land mass. But as the Japanese military progressed, they began to control areas of track that were then used for their own war effort. This map shows lines such as the Beijing-Hankou and Hankou-Hong Kong lines that were split between the different powers and also lines such as the Jin-Pu line which was mostly in Japanese control. Japanese controlled Manchurian lines are also shown to represent Japan’s occupation in 1931 before the war.
