Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a semi-governmental agency devoted to supporting socioeconomic development and economic recovery and stability in developing nations. In Cambodia, the agency is supporting economic development through different projects in multiple different sectors including health care, education, governance, and many others. One of the most pressing issues in Cambodia’s development is the quality of the water supply. Specifically, much of the natural water in Cambodia contains harmful chemicals and is not safe for drinking.

This map displays the project sites of the Urban Water Supply Project in Cambodia, which is partially funded and supported by JICA. The goal of this project is to improve (green diamond) and expand (yellow diamond) the drinkable water supply and replace (purple diamond) inefficient systems already in place. This is an ongoing project focusing on the water supply (gold lines) in 8 provinces (outlined in blue) and the capital, Phnom Penh. The individual projects in the areas outlined in pink have already been completed.
