This map shows the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. The map shows how far the Japanese went into Manchuria from 1931 to 1932. Japan held Korea before the invasion, took half during 1931, and took all of it during 1932. After Japan took over they created a puppet state called Manchukuo, which was not recognized by many countries. The South Manchurian Railway was owned by Japan and went up through Russia. This railway was used as an excuse to invade Manchuria. The Japanese said that the Chinese caused damage to the railway. Along the railroad are a few major cities, Dalian, Shenyang, Changchun, and Harbin. Shenyang (then Mukden) was where the explosion on the railway happened. Dalian was a port city. Changchun became the capital city of the puppet state and was renamed Hsinking. Harbin was a Chinese hold out that fell to the Japanese army.
